Carly Fern is a visual artist and performer based in Melbourne, Australia. Her work explores the absurd and profane nature of the human condition using interactive performance, sound and mixed media installation practices. With a penchant for the absurd, her work encourages audiences to ponder the meaning of life with quiet reverie and a tongue thrust firmly in the cheek.
Carly has a BA in Contemporary Arts (Honours) majoring in photography, and a Cert IV in Small Business Management, she has also studied Transpersonal Counselling.
As an independent recording artist, Carly has released 3 self-funded recordings, with plans for a 4th in the works and has toured her music both nationally and worldwide. As a performance artist, Carly has produced 2 solo shows and been part of festivals such as MICF, Melbourne Fringe, Rainbow Serpent and VAMFF.
As a community artist Carly has facilitated a number of creative workshops, as well as taking part in a self-directed residency with Annisa Rizkiana in Central Java in 2016. Presenting workshops, music and mixed-media artworks for PENTA-K Labs #1: NARASI KEMIJEN curated by Kolektif Hysteria.
In June 2019, Carly will travel to Canada to take part in a one-month performance art residency program at the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity.
